The team is a frontline operations and maintenance organization that reports directly to the Operations and Maintenance Manager. The Operations and Maintenance Manager Bacton manages a plant comprising of three gas terminals and reliable condensate export route, and Control Room from which the activities of the offshore normally unmanned platforms are controlled.  The plant is strategically important to the UK energy security, accepting gas from four main offshore lines and suppling processed gas to the UK National Grid as well as the European markets via the Netherlands. The Operations and Maintenance Manager interfaces with the regulator, industry, third party customers, and local business.

What’s the role?

Accountabilities

  • Goal Zero, both for personal safety and for process safety. The Operations and Maintenance Manager is expected to be the role model and drive a healthy HSSE culture: caring for people, discussing risks, being curious how work gets done, welcoming bad news without blame, role modelling a learner mindset and demonstrating visible safety leadership.
  • Duty holder representative for Bacton gas plant, with legal duties associated to UK employer/resource/environmental and other legislation.

  • Drive a high-performance culture in the PU, with an engaged workforce empowered and motivated to deliver.
  • Uphold staff development, coaching and succession planning for staff in the direct reporting line.
  • Collaborate effectively with the ONEGas West offshore Operations and Maintenance Manager and NAM/OGW Technical functions through the Agile model to ensure resources are matched with the highest priority threats & opportunities to improve and protect value for Bacton.
  • Manage external stakeholders including third party customers, the community and the UK H&S Exec, NSTA etc on legal and license to operate and legal issues.
  • Head of Bacton leadership team, and a key position in ONEgas West asset

Key challenges

  • This is a mature asset. Managing asset integrity and achieving a step up in process safety and operational excellence is key for license to operate and a profitable business.
  • Addressing corrective maintenance backlog, in particular fabric maintenance, in a disciplined and cost-conscious manner.
  • Given the duality of cost and operational pressure the successful applicant will need to make tough choices and focus on what is essential for medium to long term operational robustness of the plant.
