Job Description

The overall objectives of this role are:

  • Provide support for conceptual design of changes.
  • Lead changes from Concept Approval through Technical Approval stages within Cintellate. 
  • Develop and coordinate the basis for design and supporting documentation as the design package for the changes to be ready for execution by the site.
  • Provide technical support to operations.

Accountabilities for Health Safety and Environmental:

  • Assure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures
  • Assure compliance with Process Safety Management procedures
  • SHA / PHA technical resource
  • Coordinate MOC safeguarding
  • Responsible for maintaining safeguarding documentation for MOC
  • Responsible for tracking closure of MOC actions associated with the MOC
  • Serve as PEC for MOC’s where applicable
  • Maintain close relationships with process and discipline specialists
  • Provide technical assistance for permit applications associated with projects. For changes made in the site, Process Engineer will assist in providing information to environmental group for permit applications needed such as emission calculation, change in throughput, etc.
  • Participate in module HSSE-MS activities (PHA, HEMP, CCD, Causal investigations, etc.)
  • Work to close assigned action items from HSE-MS activities (PHA, HEMP, etc.).
  • Support and implement Ensure Safe Production work process related activities

Other Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all process designs are safe, technically sound and meet Company standards.
  • Potentially lead or support special technical studies and provide engineering support to the assessment (pre-scouting) activities of improvement ideas
  • Support completion of steps within Cintellate
  • Engage with stakeholders and customers to align on objectives and minimum functional requirements, timing, etc.
  • Develop and maintain Basis of Design for all phases of the MOC
  • Obtain Technical Assurance in Scope Finalization, Model Reviews, and SOME. Process engineer will work with the corresponding discipline TA in obtaining technical assurance of applicable control points.  For technical reviews which do not require TA2 or TA3 approvals, process engineer will provide the technical review and approvals.
  • Develop Process Engineering deliverables throughout the MOC.
  • Provide continued process engineering support to the execution organizations during the detailed engineering, procurement, and construction phases of the MOC
  • Address any actions assigned during commissioning and start-up support to operations
  • Provide technical oversight of the site’s processes
  • Proactive technical monitoring
  • Advanced troubleshooting
  • Lead Process Safety improvement initiatives
  • Provide support for successful implementation of unit outages
  • Participate in audits as needed to maintain compliance with state & federal requirements, as well as local and corporate standards
  • Provide technical support of operations activities with technical, maintenance, and HSE departments (technical point of contact for run and maintain issues)
  • Ensure complete documentation of key technical work
  • Provide support to Operations as needed in meeting the production department annual targets in the following areas: HSE, Reliability, Quality Assurance, and Unit Optimization including Fixed and Variable Costs. 
  • Serve as a unit representative on site-wide teams as required.

Skills

  • Chemical Engineering or advanced technical degree required.
  • Prefer 6-8+ years of technical experience, preferably direct support to plant operations.
  • Knowledge level competency in core Process Engineering skills as shown below:

  • Process Unit Design
  • Process Unit Operations Support
  • Concept Development
  • Process Control & Real-Time Optimization
  • Process Design Integrator
  • Process Modelling and Analysis
  • Energy, Utilities, Water
  • Background in process engineering support and/or process engineering project experience preferred
  • Self-motivated and works effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively within the site and P&T
  • Knowledge in chemical technologies
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication (technical writing, presentation, listening) skills
  • Experience with plant changes and MOC
  • Knowledge and application of safety methodology and reviews (PHA, HEMP-LOPA, etc.), including safeguarding.
  • Knowledge in applicable industry codes and standards and will be familiarized with the application of DEPs/Engineering standards
  • Knowledge of project economic analysis and use of economics model
  • Knowledge of process control systems and theory
  • Knowledge of the MOC work process and other work process integration & deliverables for Projects
  • Proficient in use of spreadsheets, computer, and basic simulation models
