
Senior Specialist – Manage Indirect Tax
What’s the role
Process Objective:
Submit accurate and timely tax returns in accordance with the relevant local tax rules, regulations and generally accepted practices, within the deadlines set by them
Pay or effect payment of all tax liabilities on time and in the right amount, as shown on the tax return
Submit accurate and timely tax accounting information in accordance with local and Group accounting requirements
Closely engage with other processes to ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting activities upon which tax payments/returns submissions are depends on
Tax Audit coordinator to deliver and support audit request in a timely, process compliant way, ensuring that every request is performed to specified quality standards and within agreed timeline
What you’ll be doing
Accountabilities:
Senior Specialist main accountabilities and activities will cover team management, coordination and ensuring a top quartile Indirect Tax Compliance process for the countries and taxes covered.
Prepare and execute accurate and timely tax returns, respective supporting documents required and tax payments
Develop professional working relationships with colleagues within the process and in the interface process across Finance Operations
Update work instructions as and when applicable and at regular intervals as per Work Instructions policy guidelines
Conduct variance analysis, reasonableness checks and reconciliations
Ensure timely completion of SOAR analysis of tax accounts balances and as per required
Driving corrective actions within FO Tax to ensure compliance of the process with local tax regulations and internal procedures (LFI, metrics reporting etc.)
Update work instructions as and when applicable and at regular intervals as per Work Instructions policy guidelines
Identify and implement opportunities to continuously improve processes
Comply to Shell Group records management & Information risk management procedures and manage the working papers and support documentation related to the tax returns
Analyze and effectively manage end-to-end Indirect Tax risks and resolve complex, high impact, and non-routine issues by applying experience and knowledge of legislation, practices and procedures and communicate effectively to relevant stakeholders
Provide routine advice on the indirect tax treatment of transactions and the process to stakeholders (when necessary) with referral made to Tax advisor when in doubt
Manage the Tax Team to deliver accurate and timely tax returns and corresponding tax payments, including:
- cooperate with the customer in the area of tax and/or business changes which might have impact on the tax settlements effectively manage and develop Tax team
- co-operate with feeder processes to ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting activities upon which tax returns submission dependsManage and lead the implementation of the “audit worthy” file status for the team weekly/monthly tax compliance working file
Liaison with Tax Authority and Tax Advisor directly during Tax Audit
Lead the planning and co-ordination of the work of the team members during Tax Audit to ensure quality and turnaround times targets are met
Work closely with the Auditor to understand the required information and assess the impact of any audit findings
Follow up/monitor the refund and manage Shell Account Receivables efficiently
Ensure team compliance with process, quality standards and timeliness target by assessing the team outputs, identifying decencies and ensuring gaps are closed
Oversee the collation of information for enquiries from external auditors and authorities
Able to perform under tight deadlines and ad-hoc request

In-depth, up-to-date knowledge of concepts, philosophy, principles, law, requirements, practices, end-to-end controls, risks and complexities relating to Indirect Taxes.
Effectively manages end-to-end Indirect Tax risks, resolving technical and practical local and cross-border Indirect Tax issues by applying experience and knowledge of legislation, practices and procedures, with referral made to Tax advisor when in doubt
Interprets new legislation and/or adapts existing legislation to new situations via collaboration and reference to Tax Advisor
Generates substantial improvements to local Indirect Tax-related practices and procedures

Enthusiastic and proactive at engaging with colleagues on the power of metrics based disciplined operations, Continuous Improvement and Data Quality Assurance to drive Operational Excellence across E2E processes

Manages specific assurance activities in support of management’s self-assessment, understands the relationships to the business objectives and associated risks

Position Requirements:
Degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent Professional Qualification
Relevant experience in Indirect Tax Compliance and Reporting is preferred
Working experience of at least 5 years in accounting/indirect tax field
At least 2 years of experience in team management
Working knowledge of SAP is preferred
Must have working knowledge of MS Office (Advanced)
Must have working knowledge of Digital tools and their skills on analytics, data interpretation and reporting
Knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications/Macro is welcomed
Results oriented, fast paced, resourceful and proactive
Good communication, stakeholder engagement & analytical skills
Incumbents must be able to work under pressure with team members
Read and write proficiency in Thai is required
