PURPOSE

The Energy Risk and Accounting (ERA) process extends across many steps in the lifecycle of hydrocarbon stock in Group from recording contracts for purchases and sales of stock in our systems, recording stock movements, stock reconciliations, invoicing for stock sales and payments for stock purchases, through to stock valuation.

The ERA processes support a number of downstream businesses, principally Trading and Supply, but also Aviation, Bitumen, Lubes, Manufacturing, Chemicals and Integrated Gas. The Team Manager at Finance Operations will manage the operation of the ERA process for Shell entities in defined country/scope to ensure operational excellence and process compliance, maintain a high-quality control framework, drive continuous improvement agenda in joint partnership with stakeholders (business and interfacing processes) and staff and capability development. The Team Manager position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated, highly energetic individual to obtain significant Finance Operations and GSAP/non GSAP process and systems exposure.

The position entails providing direct supervision to the team, organizing and coordinating workload and acting as a point of contact for any escalated issues as needed. The Team Manager is responsible for reporting and analyzing team performance and address operational issues to ensure that all metrics and processes are achieved. The role is also responsible in managing various personnel functions including but not limited to team resourcing, training, performance appraisals and manage under-performance if there is any. The Team Manager should also be able to identify process improvements or control gaps and resolutions. Participation in major change programs such as implementation and process standardization are also required. To provide first-line supervision and leadership for a team size of 5-10 staff handling E2E process (CPT, Stock Recording and Reconciliation, Mass Balance, HM Settlements and Valuation). The Team Manager covers the planning and organization of the team's work, to engage and enable team members to execute work efficiently and effectively, and to establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Communicate team performance status and needs to the Senior Team Manager/Operations Manager and provides monthly service level metrics details.

  • Supervise activities of the Specialists and staff members.

  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and coaching as needed to ensure effective teamwork, identification and resolution of issues and facilitation of stakeholder relationships.

  • Develop and implement team goals in accordance with over-all organizational goals.

  • Ensure team adheres to fundamentals of standard accounting principles, policies and standards.

  • Ensure all processes, procedures and controls are followed, and that a robust control framework is maintained. This includes adherence to the Work Instructions that this document is updated. Where issues occur, understand details and establish root causes whether coming from design or execution and take appropriate steps to resolve.

  • Embed knowledge management (business/process) within the team and ensure that local process/business/stakeholder knowledge is adequately recorded/documented and retained.

  • Support/drive stabilization theme (targeted improvements in manual workaround process, Feeder process/Process discipline, IT challenges etc) so that our operating processes are effective and robust.

  • Constantly monitor the controls environment specifically risky transactions and ensure they are fit for purpose and kept robust and evergreen to suit the dynamic business. Complexity is with respect to Regulatory environment (e.g. sanctions on GEC countries or sectoral sanctions), supporting new business on controls and compliance; etc. Ensure that the process performance delivered by the organization meets the diverse requirements of businesses and satisfies local legal, fiscal and other obligations. 

  • Support process knowledge sharing within and across the organization.

  • Organize and coordinate the work efforts of the team to assure objectives are completed within deadlines and budget.

  • Identify possible improvement opportunities towards a more effective/efficient end-to-end process.

  • Drive the “Does the number makes sense” kind of attitude within the team to understand underlying business drivers for material values appearing under Financial statements.

  • Other relevant activities/tasks assigned by the line manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferably 5yrs+ of Finance experience with demonstrated strong leadership and supervisory skills.

  • At least 2 years of team leadership experience

  • Excellent influencing, communication and business partnering skills at varying levels within the organization.

  • Challenging mindset to push for first time right for feeder processes.

  • Ability / flexibility to deal with continuous change and taking the team along.

  • Ability to drive results and sustainable past performance.
