
Senior Engineer - Process

The Shell Lubricants Hub Hamburg is the largest lubricant plant in Europe, producing more than 400 million liters annually. The site is central to Shell’s global “Powering Progress” strategy and currently being transformed into a modern and competitive supply hub to sustainably grow the lubricants business. Around 200 employees and 200 contractors ensure the supply to over one million customers in more than 160 countries. As a global leader in the lubricants sector, Shell is sustainably and future-orientedly developing this long-standing business. The plant supplies close to 50% of Shell lubricants produced in Europe, being the backbone of the European lubricants supply.
What’s the role
As the Senior Process Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our production processes in the Lubricants Hub Hamburg. You will support day-to-day operations, lead process optimization initiatives, and contribute to continuous improvement in safety, quality, and sustainability. You will be an integral part of the newly established Supply Hub Technology department, providing essential engineering support to investment projects.
What you’ll be doing
As the Senior Engineer - Process, you will be delivering engineering support and ensuring process safety to foster business growth, drive innovation, and maintain operational compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Provide engineering support and contribute to capital projects, including design input, commissioning, and start-up support
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of process deviations or equipment failures
Develop, monitor and analyze process performance using operational data and KPIs
Define technical requirements for portfolio changes, new product introductions and formulation changes
Scout new (digital) technologies and manage improvement initiatives, including small Capex projects
Participate in hazard and operability studies, risk assessments, and management of change processes; manage process safety and support HEMP and R&I studies
What you bring
University degree in Chemical or Process Engineering or a related field
Significant years of experience in chemical plant operations (asset)
Strong understanding of process design, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and control systems and familiarity with process simulation tools
Strong analytical mindset for fact-based decision making
Effective stakeholder management across various levels and external parties
Innovative yet commercially focused mindset with emphasis on bottom-line impact
Ability to balance risks and opportunities and communicate effectively with stakeholders
Experience in Project Management Framework is a plus
