What’s the role

The Laboratory Technician at Shell Polymers Monaca is a key contributor to product quality assurance, responsible for conducting accurate and timely testing of polyethylene products. This role ensures that all materials meet internal specifications and industry standards by operating and maintaining cutting edge laboratory equipment, following established procedures, and documenting results with precision. Working under the guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor, the technician supports 24x7 production operations, contributes to continuous improvement efforts, and upholds safety and quality protocols to help deliver consistent, high-quality products to our customers.

What you’ll be doing

Support Activities - Enabling collaboration, learning, and compliance within the lab and broader organization

  • Participate in training programs and demonstrate continuous learning of laboratory techniques and quality systems

  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments e.g. Operations to support production and quality objectives

  • Assist in internal and external audits by providing documentation and demonstrating compliance with quality systems

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance laboratory efficiency and accuracy

  • Monitor process data and apply technical knowledge to proactively avert product quality issues

Technical Support - Responsibilities focused on technical accuracy, data integrity, and quality assurance

  • Perform routine and non-routine testing of polyethylene products to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards

  • Accurately document and report test results in accordance with laboratory procedures and data integrity requirements

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure reliable performance

  • Follow established analytical methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety protocols

  • Participate in statistical quality control (SQC) monitoring and report any deviations or trends

  • Support the troubleshooting of product quality issues by providing timely and accurate analytical data

  • Assist in the preparation and standardization of reagents and reference materials

  • Adhere to ISO 9001 and site-specific quality management system requirements

  • Participate in causal investigations if necessary

Operations - Day-to-day tasks that ensure the lab runs smoothly and supports production needs

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in compliance with HSSE policies

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of assigned testing to meet production and shipping schedules

  • Provides input to increase safety, efficiency, and accuracy of Laboratory operations

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer

  • Minimum of an associate degree in a scientific or technical field; a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred

  • Experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment is preferred, ideally within the chemical, polymer, or related industry

  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing methods, instrumentation, and data documentation

  • Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001 and statistical quality control (SQC) practices

  • Experience working in a safety-conscious environment with adherence to HSSE protocols

  • Exposure to Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and basic computer proficiency for data entry and reporting

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a 24x7 operational setting, including effective communication across shifts and departments

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements (HazCom, MSDS, emissions, DOT, etc.)

  • We're looking for 16 Laboratory Technicians

The base salary range for this position is $70, 000 – $106, 000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity. 

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance.
