Position Purpose

The Shell Sarnia Refinery is seeking an Economics & Scheduling Manager to manage hydrocarbon planning and scheduling activities for our Sarnia Refinery. This leader will report to the Business Management GM for Canada, and sits on the Sarnia Site leadership team interfacing with the Production Manager and site teams to optimize the intake, unit production plans, including crudes/feedstock receipts and products off-take schedules. This leader also interfaces with the Margin Optimization Team Lead in trading to support the development of extrinsic value creation for this asset. As part of the Canada Business Team, this person will have the opportunity to be involved in both transformational and commercial opportunities.

The Shell Sarnia Refinery consists of 85 KBPD with Chemical IPA integration which provides for an opportunity to cover a wide range of experiences. Accountabilities:

  • Represent the site in the planning activities for the integrated business and develop the optimized refinery production plan in collaboration with relevant stakeholders

  • Ensure that the short and medium term refinery schedule is aligned with the monthly refinery plan while minimizing stock outs, demurrage and maintaining stocks and product losses within agreed targets

  • Manage the economic refinery performance tracking and appraisal process and ensure accurate price information in relevant tools is accurate to support margin forecast

  • Act as a local subject matter expert for the refinery planning and scheduling processes & tools (Aspentech Suite – PIMs and Orion)

  • Embed and maintain the planning and scheduling tools of the refinery together with margin optimization trading team, including refinery planning and scheduling systems, basic data management, capability & constraint setting and blend model optimization

  • Promote the Product Quality (PQ) assurance process within the refinery, to ensure minimum product giveaway and ensure closure of PQ incidents

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Minimum of 10 years work related experience in refining or petrochemical industry is required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business other related discipline

  • Experience in commercial and customer acumen, combined with a solid understanding of both Chemical and Refining processes. Thus, significant Manufacturing, Supply, and Commercial experience is essential

  • Knowledge of Refinery Planning and Scheduling processes & tools (Aspentech Suite – PIMs and Orion)

  • Prior site leadership experience in Manufacturing, Process Technology, Commercial, or Economics & Scheduling with significant cross-business and cross-functional experience

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of core refinery, chemical, finance, commercial B2B, and logistics processes, and be able to understand the economics of these processes as they apply to the overall commercial business
